Hyung Mok Lee is a Professor of Astrophysics in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Seoul National University.
His research investigates the dynamics of dense stellar systems such as globular clusters and galactic nuclei, the formation and evolution of compact binaries containing black holes and neutron stars, and gravitational-wave sources. He pioneered gravitational-wave research in Korea and leads the Korea Gravitational Wave Group (KGWG), a member of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration since 2009. He also initiated Korean participation in the Japanese AKARI infrared space telescope mission launched in 2006.
