Namig Dzhalilov (also Namig Jalilov) is Director of the Shamakhy Astrophysical Observatory of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) and a corresponding member of ANAS. Born in 1955 in the Shakhbuz district of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, he graduated from Azerbaijan State University (now Baku State University) and continued his postgraduate studies at IZMIRAN of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
He defended his PhD in 1983 on the propagation and transformation of magnetoacoustic-gravity waves in the solar atmosphere and his Doctor of Sciences thesis in 2004 on physical models of global oscillations of the Sun. He is a member of the Eurasian International Astronomical Society and is recognized for his work in plasma physics and solar physics.
